Sylvia Woods, the "Queen of Soul Food", died yesterday after a bout with Alzheimer's. Her "Sylvia's" restaurant in Harlem has been a soul food staple since the 60s. Sylvia Woods moved to New York and in 1954, worked at a restaurant called Johnson's Luncheonette. She eventually bought the restaurant and the rest is delicious Harlem history. Mrs. Woods is survived by four children, Van, Bedelia, Kenneth, and Crizette, who are working together to keep the family business going. Considering it's rich legacy, they shouldn't have a very difficult time.

The founder of "Bikinis Sports Bar and Grill", Doug Guller, has bought a small town in Texas and will be renaming the area after his his establishment. The town, which was purchased through Craigslist, will formerly be known as Bikinis, Texas. In a short interview, Guller was asked about his process of purchasing the town and says that it wasn't easy. "We've been searching for towns in Texas to buy for over [a] year and found this one in the perfect area. My broker narrowed our search to four to five towns. He helped negotiate with the owner(s) of the various properties. All of the towns that we talked to were not for sale when we began the conversation. We paid for the town in cash. Seller wants to remain anonymous." He also discussed his plans for the town itself, stating that things are still being molded. However, he did mention that he'll be mayor of the town. "We are still putting the plans together for what the town will be. Ironically, we've been searching for a site to put the Bikinis Hall of Fame for the last six years, and this might be the perfect place for it." During the same night of that interview in which many people listened to Trayvon Martin's killer talk about how sorry he was, a new Twitter account (@friendsofgz) was created in his name. Bad Boy rapper French Montana has been known to step out in rather eccentric attire when he makes a public appearance. He shows off a variety of different accessories as well, such as scarves and hats which all feature eye-catching designs. In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, French explained his fashion sense and expressed how he came to love the Versace brand so much. He also decked out the Magazine's staff in Versace wear. "I have been a fan of Versace for so long, watching people like Biggie, Puff, Jay-Z. I've been collecting them for a while now."
He then briefly noted that the attire worn by rappers will forever be popular which is why, in his opinion, his style is "Hip Hop". "Rappers make something hip-hop. Like when Biggie wore the yellow one, the one that I wore for Summer Jam, he made it hip-hop. And when he wore the Coogi sweater, he made that hip-hop. Whatever rappers wear is cool to people." Nas recently spoke to MTV about the highly rumored collaboration track between himself and singer Frank Ocean. The track is believed to be titled "White Jesus", and although Nas and Frank have spoken about linking up to record the song, they were never actually able to complete the recording. "I've talked about a song with Frank Ocean about a year and a half before anybody worked with him and since then it's been a heavily anticipated record, but I didn't talk about which song actually. Now, I've talked about us working and we never got to that point, completing a great record. Who knows? I guess it would've been a big record if it ever came to light." Maybe there is still a chance that Nas and Frank Ocean will be able to record that song for a future project for either artist. Source: sohh.com
CyHi the Prynce detailed his role within the G.O.O.D. Music family to Billboard in a recent interview, about how observing Kanye West work in the studio has helped him greatly with his own debut album under the G.O.O.D. Music label. He explained that although people may think that he is being overlooked among the rest of the artists in his label, he assures his doubters that everyone in the label plays a particular role in the musical development of everyone's projects, and when his time comes, he will be ready to take the lead. "A lot of people don't know my role. A lot of people don't know that Big Sean was signed five years before he actually broke. But what we do is build on foundation organically because it doesn't matter if [Kanye] is on our song or not, we can still promote our music. I can still put out a mixtape and everybody receives it. That's the foundation I built so... And at the same time I do a lot of creative work that people don't see. I play my position, then when it's time for me to do what I do, then I do. "To observe [West] is to learn. You can kind of see how he does it and you'd better be taking notes. I gathered a lot of different ideas, different things, and different methods from him to incorporate in my project." His album, The Hardway Musical, is predicted to release early in 2013. So much has been talked about in regards to Frank Ocean since he revealed his sexuality in a letter on his Tumblr page. In an interview that he did with the Guardian Guide, Ocean opens up about his decision to come out and gives detailed explanations about his situation. "...I'm happy when I wake up in the morning, and not with this freakin' boulder on my chest", he said. "I wished at 13 there was somebody I looked up to who would have said something like that, who would have been transparent in that way." Frank also discussed the letter that he wrote on his Tumblr which ultimately revealed the news to the world. "I knew that I was writing in a way that people would ask questions. I knew that my star was rising, and I knew that if I waited I would always have somebody that I respected be able to encourage me to wait longer, to not say it till who knows when." Ocean then went on to diminish the risk of his coming out. "People are just afraid of things too much. Sure, evil exists, extremism exists. Somebody could commit a hate crime and hurt me. But they could do the same just because I'm black. They could do the same just because I'm American." The full interview will be published on Saturday. Some haters or former fans of singer/dancer Ciara are very upset with her and her musical choices throughout her career. They feel as though she has been too inconsistent with her musical output for her fans and have taken action, in a rather nasty and harsh way, to prevent her from being able to make music again. Her haters have created a petition titled, "2012 STOP CIARA FROM MAKING MUSIC CAMPAIGN", on change.org. The goal they have set is to get 500 signatures in order for this petition to go forward in some way towards actually preventing her from being allowed to make music, however it will take many more than a simply 500 angry fans to get her from stopping. One petitioner wrote this very cruel message to Ciara, as to why he/she has decided to take action against her: "We accepted her when she began tucking, we accepted her when she added the virgin remy to her cornrows, we even accepted her when she decided to stop topping Bow Wow and try her hand at being more vers! No more! No longer will her edges be the subject of nightmares!" Ouch! Let's see if Ciara can bounce back with some real hot tracks to silence all of her haters. NBA point guard Raymond Felton will make his return to Madison Square Garden as a member of the New York Knicks once again. He was recently acquired by the organization after they decided not to keep last season's biggest story, Jeremy Lin. Right after Lin was introduced as a member of the Houston Rockets, Felton discussed how he felt about the situation while at a Summer League game. "I am a competitor, I am a point guard just like he is, so do I think I am better? Of course, I am going to say that. I think I am better than any point guard. That's the way I am supposed to think. But at the same time it's nothing personal between me and Jeremy. But people are going to make it about that. I am fine with that." Felton was one of the four point guards the Knicks were thinking about acquiring after they signed NBA veteran Jason Kidd to a deal. Felton says even if the Knicks would have matched Houston's offer for Lin, he still would've came to New York. "If we would have spoken about that part of it, matching Jeremy, then obviously I would have thought about it more, but at the same time I think I still would have came. Cause this is where I wanted to be, where I wanted to play and on top of that I have confidence in my game and I'll leave that at that." The new Knicks point guard touched on how impressed he was with Lin's performance last season, as well as the money Jeremy was offered by the Rockets. "My hat's off to Jeremy. I like to see a guy that comes from being down and working his way all the way up. I thought what he did was incredible, what he did was one of the best I've seen in basketball in a long time. And I wish him the best of luck. And I am not here to get into -- he was getting way too much money, if you can get the money go get it. So, I am not going to be the one that says that." The issue with internet piracy in the US started long ago with Napster and has been a point of federal interest ever since. File sharing site Megaupload is the latest company to suffer at the hands of the American Department of Justice, as it was recently shut down. Producer Swizz Beatz has found himself mixed up in the mess, since he was thought to be a major player in the company. Both Megaupload and Swizz vehemently deny this, but the truth is crucial to the case. Since Megaupload was not based in the US, the feds are targeting Swizz Beatz, claiming he was on their executive board and had jurisdiction. If he is found to have held a major part of the company, the Department of Justice can and will hold the trial in America. This is bad news for anyone caught pirating copyrighted material in the US, since this country is one of the strictest. There is not much evidence suggesting the producer was on the companies board, but if the feds find a way to serve him a summons, he could be in a heap of trouble. A tragic and cold blooded shooting occurred during a midnight showing of the highly anticipated Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises" at the Century 16 Movie Theaters in Aurora Town Center, Colorado. The suspect in custody has been identified as 24-year-old James Holmes, who had been a student at the University of Colorado Medical School. Witnesses said that they saw a 6-foot-tall man wearing a bullet-proof vest, goggles, and a riot helmet enter the theater through the emergency exit door and let loose a canister of tear gas before he started unloading a storm of bullets on the unsuspecting movie goers. One witness, Tanner Cooner, who attended the midnight show with a friend and his 12-year-old brother recalled the shooting, stating that the shooter let off about 20 rounds and then there was a "period of quietness when everybody started running out. I slipped on some blood and landed on a lady. I shook her and said. 'We need to go.' There was no response, so I presume she was dead." Another eyewitness, Jennifer Seeger, recalled the horror to TODAY news, stating: "It was mass chaos, he threw in the gas can, and then I knew it was real. I told my friend, 'We've got to get out of here,' but then he shot people trying to go out the exits. When I ... tried to escape, there was a little girl, 12 or 13, just laying lifeless on the stairs. I got terrified. I didn't know what to do, like a deer in the headlights. I jumped into the aisle and curled up into a little ball waiting for him to go away." President Obama halted his campaign in Florida in order to return to Washington and address the horrific massacre properly. "There will be other days for politics," he said during his brief stay in Fort Myers. James Holmes was apprehended standing near his car in the back of the theater after he left 38 people injured and 12 dead. He had four firearms in his possession, three of which he actually took into the theater to conduct the shooting: an assault rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol. The fourth was left in his vehicle along with other ammunition. Police are currently trying to gain access to his home, although he has in fact booby trapped it with various explosive/flammable devices, so authorities are trying their best to disarm the devices in question. This is by far the worst shooting in Colorado since the tragic Columbine High School shooting.

Mr. Briggs is claiming that Nicki's production company actually owe him $19,000 and that the negative press that he has received for this issue has prevented him from getting future work. GlobalGrind came upon an interesting phone conversation between George Zimmerman and his sister which occured while he was behind bars for the shooting and killing of Trayvon Martin. GlobalGrind apparently skimmed through over 150 phone call conversations that Zimmerman had while in Seminole County jail and in one of them, the two talked about music and business mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs "stabbing him in the back". It's kind of hard to believe that they would jump to this conclusion, even if Diddy did stand up for Trayvon Martin and his family for the nationwide cause of bringing Zimmerman to justice. He killed Trayvon, regardless if Trayvon attacked him first, so this case should go to trial regardless and thus Diddy had a right to call for Zimmerman being brought before a judge. Check out the conversation between George and his sister here: Sister: Guess what I listened to? GZ: What? S: The song you were telling me about? GZ: P Diddy? S: Do you know that him and others are talking shit? GZ: P Diddy? S: Yeah GZ: Oh...I didn't know. S: You know what's so funny? It's people that we've been admiring for such a long time. GZ: Yup S: It's like wow. GZ: Yup S: I can't believe it. It's crazy GZ: I can't believe it either. S: Yeah, it's like a stab in the back. GZ: Yup Source: globalgrind.com
